Lucky Notes

Laurent Caris Love these dreamy Moby vibes with a warm soft voice like Sufjan Stevens or the cheerfulness of Mika, some psychedelic seventies streaks and always those words that wonder about life, relationships and new adventures... seasoned with contemporary mixes, 'Streetlife ', 'Between us' , singer-songwriter guitar playing, compelling rhythms like this hip-hoppy 'Run', 'Movement' dreamscapes floating on clouds and 'Not a word at breakfast' descending back to earth... Kyson in wonderland :)

about

“For me, making music is the most child-like thing ever,” says Jian Liew, better known as Kyson, synth-shaman of teleporting sounds. “You’re just free, running around a field naked, doing whatever you want. There are no borders to what you can do. It’s limitless.” The musician-producer has tinkered with effervescent, hip-hop soundscapes, which Pitchfork described as “exotic but familiar,” over two albums (The Water’s Way, A Book of Flying) and several collaborations (among them: Shigeto’s “Water Collides” and Bon Iver’s “Holocene”). Followed by his third album, the self-titled Kyson ( B3SCI Records), a sonic memoir that jailbreaks Kyson’s repertoire through depth of narrative and tactile instrumentation.

On his new album “Lucky Notes” Liew creates a colourful and sweeping account of “reality” & “non reality”. Through this lens he delves deep into his own journey of self discovery, regret and love. If previously Liew has embraced real-life storytelling and instrumentation, “Lucky Notes” see’s the artist move into new territory as stories and sounds collaged together create a universe that is partly his own, and partly from a dream he once had.

Within the space of each piece of music lies this dual reality which is further explored through an imaginative mix of both relatable and unconventional sound choices combined with free flowing compositions that contain opposing yet interrelated forces.

Written between the late night sessions in his Berlin studio and the cold spring months he spent alone in a tranquil Monastery in the countryside of Austria, the album's energy flows between natural and artificial effortlessly. “I tried to capture nature in its quietest and darkest moments and combine that with the rush of living and working in a city which can be both fruitful and demanding. These two extremely different surroundings i was in felt like two different existances to me and really inspired me to make the album i did”

“Lucky Notes” is out on October 21st via B3SCI Records.
